Teacher
Belly dance - known also as ‘oriental dance’ or  ‘raqs sharqi’ -  is the woman's dance of the Middle East. The origins of this are lost in the mists of time, but it was initially a religious rite and later developed as a means of expressing and celebrating everyday life.

Belly dance welcomes women of all shapes and sizes. Non-competitive, and at the same time relaxing and dynamic, it gives women a chance to enjoy themselves together.   It is especially suited to the female physiology, and uses the entire body – the arms and legs, of course, the hips, waist and bust, the fingers and the neck – with belly dance the whole body dances!

As a teacher Roxanna explains each movement clearly, and offers a high technical standard, while allowing each student to progress at their own pace.   Classes are based on an understanding of Arabian musicality and culture.

She teaches at The Mary Ward Centre in London.

Roxanna started ballet classes at the age of 4, and went on to perform jazz, contempary, tap  and African dance.   Belly dance came much later... when she accidentally walked into a class given by the great dancer Leila Haddad in Paris.   She fell in love with the grace, beauty and femininity of this dance and stayed with Leila for over 10 years and learned everything this superb artist could teach her.

On returning to England she continues to teach and perform, transmitting the elegant and sensual style she learned.
